On Wednesday 12th November I was fortunate to take part in a “Meet the Marines” day at Upton Warren Activity Centre. Throughout the day we were given first-hand experience of was it was like to train and be a Marine. It was a tough day but it was great fun and enjoyed by all who attended, both Broadway students and students from other schools across the city.
During the day we took part in several different activities. These included speeding around the lake in the RIB boat, high ropes, physical training, tactical skills development, hand to hand combat and basic first aid and weaponry. Each of the activities offered a different challenge and there was something for everyone.
On the back of some typical November weather, the ground was muddy and we were certainly glad that we had been advised to take a spare change of clothes.
It was great to mix with students from other schools and I learnt a great deal about myself, the importance of functioning in a team and the importance of the armed forces. It was a brilliant day and I would recommend it to others if the chance arises.
